Coming here by Air
There are several flights each day from London (Gatwick or Luton) to Inverness airport (situated about 30 miles, 48 kilometres, from Forres) or from London Heathrow to Aberdeen airport (about 120 miles,192 kilometres, from Forres).
Transcontinental flights to London (Gatwick or Luton), Prestwick and Glasgow connect daily with flights to Inverness. There are also flights from some European cities to Aberdeen and Glasgow, and from North American cities to Glasgow. Please check with your travel agent (or the web) for current information..
From Inverness Airport: If you are arriving at Inverness airport, then the quickest way to Newbold House is by taxi. The taxi drive time is about 35-40 minutes, costing £35-£45. (Sadly, we are unable to meet guests at Inverness airport.) Cheaper alternatives are to take the airport bus ( no.11 )which now runs directly to Forres at 10 past the hour. If you want to go visit Inverness prior to coming to Newbold there is also a train that travels to Forres. There are information desks at both Inverness train and bus stations, for timetables, costs, tickets and departure points. (Go to www.rapsons.com to check out the airport bus timetable between Inverness and Inverness Airport.).
From Glasgow Prestwick Airport - the cheapest route. Glasgow Prestwick is mainly served by Ryanair connecting it with all Europe. Ryanair flights are extremely cheap if booked in advance often only a few eurocents plus the taxes. To check for cheap flights go to Ryanair's find lowest fares and look for WebFare flights. From Prestwick airport you can take the train (the railway station is actually inside the airport) with 50% discount to Glasgow central station (about £4-5. a bus is also available for a slightly higher fare).
From Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station (a short walk from Glasgow Central Rail Station, or by a direct bus from the airport) you can take a Megabus low cost bus to Inverness. If booked in advance it may cost £1-5 pounds for web bookings.
From Inverness you can take the train or local coach to Forres (about £5.) The Train and coach stations are very close together. All time tables and fares of local Coaches and Trains can be looked up here. See also "Coming here by Bus and Coach" on this page.
The return trip can be designed in the same way. Prestwick airport allows people to sleep safely on the airport sofas (airport and all internal facilities close at midnight and there is a patrol service of security personnel) so that you can take flights leaving early in the morning.
As an example, it may be possible to pay only 80€ for the whole journey (return ticket).
There are sleeper trains, and regular trains, from London to Inverness and Aberdeen, with connections to Forres. A taxi from Forres Train Station costs £5-7 for the five-minute drive to Newbold House.
