Dear friends and supporters of NewBold House and community:
Hello, and Happy Spring! It’s been some time since the last edition of our Newsletter and we have much news to share. After some dynamic and sometimes challenging shifts in the community and house over the past few months, we have emerged triumphant in time for glorious spring!
Changing Times for NewBold House
Over the wintertime, several community members left NewBold to seek new lives and opportunities, including: Christopher, Beth and her daughter Sarah, Massimo, Matthew, Paula, Ilaria, Alfredo, and their son Elia. That left only a handful of us to manage the house and gardens, which caused considerable concern amongst the group and trustees. Such a quick and dramatic shift in the face of the community proved to be challenging on both a professional and personal level. As this was not the first time the NewBold family has undergone such dynamic transformation, the trustees felt it had become necessary to take a good look at the project and how to make it more viable and sustainable for all involved. As such, the trustees met for four days at the end of February to discuss the future of NewBold House. They arrived at the conclusion that the future of NewBold House will be reconsidered. From now until the end of May the trustees will be accepting proposals from groups who would like to run the house as a community and centre for a clearly defined purpose that is in alignment with NewBold’s vision and constitution. If you and your group are interested in submitting a proposal to the trustees, please contact Mary on 01309 672 659 for more information and application materials.
In the time between now and the end of October of this year, we will be hosting all workshops and courses as scheduled, with an interim staff structure in place to ensure that all runs smoothly. Mary Cowan, who has been a member of the community for a number of years, has been appointed manager, and Jan Lessons has been made deputy manager. Although this is now a ‘time-limited’ project, we have a lovely group of people living and working here, including Sarah, Ianto, Madeline, Julie, and Nikki; as well as a small group of wonderful working guests from the US and Italy.
Although he no longer lives within the community, Christopher is continuing to manage the beautiful garden one day a week as paid staff. Volkmar also will continue to help out with maintenance on an ‘on-call’ basis.
Summer Offerings at NewBold
We are looking forward to a busy and vibrant summer of workshops and the working guest programme. For most of the month of June we will be hosting a group of 20 Italian young people who will be learning to speak English while experiencing community life.
During July and August, we will give particular focus to working guests, in our programme, ‘Summer Holidays at Findhorn’. The programme involves part-time work at a reduced rate from our normal part-time working guest fees, allowing individuals to experience and contribute to community life at NewBold while having time and freedom to explore the offerings of the wider Findhorn community and the beauty of the local area. For more information on this programme, please see the ‘Community Programmes’ page on our website, www.newboldhouse.org .
As well as always welcoming applications for working guests, we are also very happy and appreciative to receive volunteers! Volunteering at NewBold is a wonderful way to enjoy the beauty of the house and gardens, and to meet and work with fun and interesting people from all over the world! If you feel you may have something to give and receive at NewBold in terms of your skills, time and positive energy please get in touch- even if you’re not able to do shifts on a regular basis we’d love to have you on board. We will be hosting an afternoon of tea and cakes for all those interested in volunteering on Sunday, 11th May, at 4pm. If you are able to come along, please contact Jan on 01309 672 659 or office@newboldhouse.org
We will also be hosting a number of other workshops over the summer months, including the week-long ‘Creating Joyful Families’ at the end of July, which provides a unique and enriching opportunity for families to deepen their relationships with each other. For more details on this and other workshops we will be hosting in the coming months, please see the workshop calendar events on our website.
Please do get in touch if you are interested in coming to visit or become involved with NewBold House in the near future!
May your lives be full of sunshine and new growth in this season of light, and we look forward to hearing from you!
Love and Blessing from the NewBold Team
